Something extra for you or your young person
This is different from my normal notes but may be useful for parents and care givers of older teens and twenty somethings
Hello!
This week I’ve been helping my 23-year-old with her writing, and it reminded me how many older teens, students and twenty-somethings are expected to write clearly and confidently — often without ever really being taught how.
Writing skills are useful for emails for jobs, messages to colleges and universities, personal statements, even just expressing themselves clearly online: so I thought I would run a free one-hour online writing session.
Writing is something I am qualified to help people with given I have 40 years of journalism and book writing under my belt and I also volunteer as a trained youth academic support worker.
A lot of young people find journalling helpful too— they’ve a lot going on in their heads but aren’t quite sure how to put it into words and doing this really helps them process life well. My session may help them out with that.
On Tuesday June 2nd at 7-8pm UK time I will hold my first free online writing session: this will be a live one-off on zoom.
We’ll sit together and I’ll share a few simple ideas and prompts, and then we’ll write. No pressure, no perfection, no need to share anything unless they want to.
This session is for adults too who want to find their writing voice, or just want to get started. If it feels helpful, you’re very welcome to join — and if you know a teenager or young adult who might benefit from a calmer, easier relationship with writing, they’re welcome too.
